Joseph Fiennes is completely transformed into legendary footballer Gareth Southgate in first look pictures for upcoming BBC drama, Dear England.

The upcoming four-part series, created by James Graham, follows a fictional account of Southgate’s ascension to managing the England male football team.

Based on a play also created by Graham, the series follows Southgate as he is given the manager role.

With the team having the world’s worst track record for penalties, a losing streak and low morale, it’s up to him to get them into shape and help England reclaim their own game at the 2024 Euros.

Based on interviews and research, this account

Joining Southgate on the series is Jodie Whittaker as England men’s team psychologist Pippa Grange, Will Antenbring as Harry Kane, Jason Watkins as former FA chairman Greg Dyke and John Hodgkinson as former FA chairman Greg Clarke.

Daniel Ryan joins as Steve Holland, former assistant manager for the England men’s team, while Sam Spruell stars as fictional coach, Mike Webster.

Dear England will air in 2026 on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
