Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany are going head-to-head in the first look trailer for Sky’s new drama, Amadeus.

The series follows iconic musician Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart during his time as a young prodigy, shortly after arriving in Vienna.

Quickly finding fame among the city’s elites, he finds himself falling in love with his future wife, Constanze Weber, and being envied by court composer Antonio Salieri.

Salieri, who is deeply religious, cannot comprehend Mozart’s seemingly divine gift, especially considering Mozart’s behaviour and personal demons.

As Mozart’s presences forces Salieri to question his faith and talent, things can only go south as Salieri develops and obsession and decides to take his rival down – sparking a 30-year rivalry.

Based on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play, the five-part series explores Mozart’s meteoric rise and mythic downfall – becoming a rock star of the 18th century.

Amadeus launches December 21st on Sky and streaming service NOW.
