BBC prison drama Time has been confirmed for a third season with Siobhan Finneran and David Tennant taking on the leading roles.
The anthology series, created by Jimmy McGovern, follows stories of the prisoners and guards within the UK prison system.
After an all-male prison in series one (with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham in the leading roles) and an all-female prison in series two (starring Jodie Whittaker and Bella Ramsay among the cast), series three will be set in a young offenders’ insitution.
Tennant will play prison officer Bailey, while Finneran will return to the series as prison chaplain, Marie-Louise.
The three part series will follow the impact of locking up teenagers, and those who are in charge of them.
Marie-Louise comes to the insitution in the midst of having a crisis of faith, but clashes with Bailey – a veteran officer who is dealing with problems of his own.
When a major incident occurs at the prison, Bailey hides information he knows, but is left grappling with his conscience as a result.
As the adults deal with these issues, two young offenders, Peter and James, arrive at the institute and adjust to life behind bars.
Andrew Morrissey, Executive Producer for BBC Studios Fiction says: “It is a privilege to be making a third series of Time with such a fantastic team. We are excited to introduce the audience to a whole new part of the prison system. Once we started the research, we knew there were stories that demanded to be told.”
Filming will take place in Belfast.
Time is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer.
