Strictly Come Dancing is spicing up the competition with a new dance challenge for the remaining competitors.

During tonight’s episode of Strictly: It Takes Two, Fleur East announced Instant Dance, a unique spin on the annual dance-a-thon that will take place during the live show on Saturday 29th November.

For Instant Dance, each remaining couple will be required pick a dance style at random from ones they have learnt in the competition so far.

They will then be played their accompanying music, told to dash through wardrobe to select and change through their costumes, before being given just 10 seconds on the countdown clock to decide exactly how they’re going to dance it.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will oversee the challenge, with the judges then ranking them for their efforts, giving the remaining six contestants extra marks depending on how well they do.

A maximum of six marks will be awarded to the couple whose Instant Dance performance impressed them the most, right down to one point for the couple whose dance impressed them the least.

“Instant Dance has the power to change everything for our couples, and will challenge them in ways they have never been challenged before,” Shirley Ballas explains.

“With standards so incredibly high this year and the competition so close, there’s a lot resting on it. The dance styles, costumes and music might not be revealed until the night, but what we can be sure of right now is that it’s going to be a whole lot of fun. I cannot wait!”

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
