Steven Knight’s ‘This Town’: Plot, trailer, pictures and cast ahead of release date

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is transporting us to a new era – the 1980s – for a brand new BBC drama.

Catapulting viewers into the Midlands, This Town is sure to get your toes tapping, and pulses soaring as a group of friends try to make their way in the music scene.

According to the official synopsis: “This Town opens in 1981 at a moment of huge social tension and unrest. Against this backdrop, it tells the story of a group of young people fighting to choose their own paths in life, each in need of the second chance that music offers.”

Which musicians will be appearing on the show?

The series is co-produced with Mercury Studios (part of the Universal Music Group) who have helped create the musical backdrop for Knight’s incredible story.

Acclaimed producer Dan Carey, Brit and Mercury nominated musician, novelist and poet Kae Tempest, and singer-songwriter ESKA have written the songs performed by the band in the series.

Six leading contemporary artists – Celeste, Gregory Porter, Olivia Dean, Ray Laurél, Sekou and Self Esteem – have each recorded a cover version which will play over the end credits of an episode.

The songs, which are yet to be announced, include both timeless classics and iconic hits of the era.

‘This Town’ release schedule:

All episodes of This Town will be available Sunday, March 31st from 6am on BBC iPlayer.

This Town will broadcast Sunday, March 31st at 9pm on BBC One.

Episode two will air the next day (Monday, April 1st) at 9pm, before continuing weekly on Sunday nights.

The series will run for six episodes.
